About Us
Healing Words volunteers are trained to read aloud to hospitalized patients, dedicated to enhancing the emotional and cognitive health of patients through the power of reading.
Healing Words aims to:
• Support literacy and lifelong learning, even in the hospital setting
• Stimulate cognitive function and mental engagement for long-term patients
• Promote comfort and relaxation through soothing and engaging literature
• Foster human connection through shared stories and meaningful interaction
Rooted in the belief that stories can heal, inspire, and connect, Healing Words offers personalized reading sessions by UAB students to patients of all ages and backgrounds during their stay at hospitals in Birmingham area.
